This week, vivo introduced the V40 duo, a mid-range pair that focuses on durability and camera features. Okay, the V40 has been around for a while now, but it's launching in India for the first time. The Pro model is all-new.
The vivo V40 Pro offers superior performance with a Dimensity 9200+ chipset and faster UFS 3.1 storage. It also has a telephoto camera, a 50MP module with 2x optical zoom.

The vivo V40 lacks a telephoto lens and uses a less powerful but still quite fast Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset with UFS 2.2 storage. Both phones use the same wide and ultrawide cameras on the back and the same selfie modules too.
It’s a 50MP main sensor (1/1.56” sensor, OIS) and a 50MP ultra-wide angle (119°). On the front, a pretty impressive 50MP module with a 21mm wide-angle lens with autofocus. Both the front and rear cameras can record 4K videos at 30fps.
Also worth mentioning is the 6.78-inch curved OLED display (1260p+, 120Hz, up to 4,500 nits) and the large 5,500mAh batteries with 80W fast charging (wired only). We talked about durability, so here are the details. That comes from the IP69K rating, which is for resistance to hot water jets (in addition to the IP68 rating for underwater immersion).

As for the 8/256GB units, the vivo V40 costs €500/₹40,000 and the vivo V40 Pro is priced at ₹50,000. Details on the V40 Pro's availability in Europe have not been announced yet.
Let’s take a quick look at its competitors. The Xiaomi 14 Civi is available in India at ₹40,000 for an 8/256GB phone. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and sports a 6.55-inch flat OLED display. This one is also fond of selfies and comes with a pair of 32MP cameras on the front – one with a 26mm wide lens and the other with a 100° ultrawide lens. On the back, there is a 50MP main (1/1.55″), a 50MP 2x telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultrawide (120°). The relatively small 4,700mAh battery supports 67W wired charging.
The Realme 13 Pro+ is even cheaper at ₹32,000, but that also comes with lower performance with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. It has a 6.7-inch OLED display (lower resolution, FHD+) and a 5,200mAh battery with 80W charging. It has a 32MP selfie camera with a 22mm lens on the front. The rear includes a 50MP primary lens (1/1.56″), a 50MP telephoto lens with a longer 73mm lens (3x), and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle (112°).
Xiaomi 14 Civi • Realme 13 Pro+ • Motorola Edge 50 Pro • Honor 200 Pro
The Motorola Edge 50 Pro is available for €530 (8/256 GB). It uses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip, identical to that of the regular V40, and has a 6.7-inch curved OLED display (1220p+). The 50 MP main sensor on the back has a large f/1.4 aperture (1/1.55″ sensor), it is joined by a 67 mm 10 MP telephoto lens (3x) and a 13 MP ultra wide angle (120°), as well as a 50 MP selfie camera with a 21 mm wide angle lens. The battery is rather small at 4,500 mAh, but supports fast charging via USB-C (125 W) and wireless (50 W).
The Honor 200 Pro is available for €700 in Europe, ₹48,000 in India thanks to a massive Great Freedom sale (which ends this week), and is a 12/512GB model. It has a 6.78-inch curved OLED display (1224p+) and a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, along with a 5,200mAh battery with 100W wired charging and 66W wireless charging. The 50MP main uses a large 1/1.3″ sensor, there's also a 50MP telephoto (2.5x) and a 12MP ultra-wide (112°). There are two modules on the front: a 50MP selfie shooter and a 2MP depth sensor for 3D face detection.
