Volvo boss calls EX90 'best car we've ever made', first deliveries begin this month

Like it or not, the all-new, fully electric EX90 may be Volvo’s most important car yet. It reflects the values of the brand, a brand that has long stood for safety, but now also for sustainability.

The EX90 boasts cutting-edge sensors, cameras and radar systems, advanced autonomous driving technology (which will be gradually implemented), and recycled and renewable materials throughout. It also has a surprisingly minimalist look, thanks to its clean lines and functional interior.

If you’re a fan, you’ll be interested to know that the all-new EX90 is shipping to dealers in the U.S. and Europe as we speak, meaning customers can expect to receive their cars before the end of this month. The Swedish automaker will then ramp up deliveries between the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2025.

This is Volvo’s flagship model at the moment, and company CEO Jim Rowan has had a lot of driving time with it in recent weeks, taking the EX90 on a road trip across the United States, from South Carolina to California. Rowan’s impressions of the vehicle are interesting, to say the least.

“Based on this trip, I can confidently say that the EX90 is the best car we have ever made. After driving it for 950 kilometers (590 miles) across three US states in various driving conditions and road surfaces, I have only positive memories.”

“The charging, the handling, the ride comfort, the quiet cabin and the exceptional sound system, the reliability, the technology and the feel of the user interface: I've never driven a Volvo like this.”

Those are bold claims, especially since Volvo already makes some pretty great vehicles, from the XC90 to the S90 and various Polestar EVs. Plus, reviews for the EX90 have just started coming in, and we can't wait to try the car out for ourselves in the near future.

The EX90 is the first-ever Volvo car powered by a central system, where the on-board computer is based on the NVIDIA DRIVE platform. The central system works together with the Snapdragon Cockpit platform and in-house developed software system, as they manage key functions within the vehicle, from safety and infotainment to battery management.

It’s also supposed to be the safest car Volvo has ever made, packed with the latest active and passive technology. Speaking of industry-leading accolades, the EX90 is the first Volvo to feature LiDAR and the first with a basic processing system. It’s also the first Volvo EV designed to provide bi-directional charging and the first car in the world to offer Abbey Road Studios Mode, which features the optional Bowers & Wilkins flagship-spec audio system.
