The vivo V40 is already on sale in Europe and we finally have a copy to review. The phone shares a lot in common with its six-month-old predecessor, but it does feature a 5,500mAh battery and a camera infused with Zeiss know-how.
The vivo V40 we have is the Nebula Purple version, which feels nice in the hand. However, we were disappointed to find that there is no charger in the retail box. So, if you want to take advantage of the phone's 80W wired charging, you will have to provide the required charger yourself.
The V40's design is bound to be polarizing with its unusual photography island. The same goes for the unusual finish of the back, halfway between sand and satin.
Up front, there's a stunning 6.78-inch AMOLED display with curved sides. In a world of flat bezels and panels, curved display fans don't have many options these days, so they should appreciate this one.
The 120Hz display looks bright, but the 4,500 nits quoted in the official specs probably aren't achievable in real life – we'll definitely check that out. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset seems to do a great job, and the phone feels very responsive in those first few minutes.
The vivo V40 has two 50MP cameras on the back – a main one with a 1/1.56″ sensor and an ultra-wide unit with a 1/2.76″ sensor. We'll know how they fare once we're done with the review.
The Aura Light is a signature feature of the series at this point, although we'll have to see if the new shape of the camera island affects its performance.
The vivo V40 starts at €500 and its hardware seems well-suited to its price point. However, we'll have to wait and see if its real-world performance is up to par.
