Four Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport race cars have disappeared in Florida, along with the truck and trailer carrying them. All four are track cars, valued at about $1.5 million.
Sometimes, thieves are just interested in stealing. It's not the profit they make, it's just the adrenaline it brings. Don't ask, we're just guessing. We have no experience stealing cars; we're just good at stealing hearts (does it work?).
That must be the case with this guy who stole a truck and trailer carrying four Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport race cars in Florida. All four cars and the racing equipment in the trailer are worth about $1.5 million.
Now, South Florida-based Rennsport-One is offering a cash reward for any tips that lead to the recovery of the stolen cars. The company has also hired a private investigator.
Police have recovered the tractor and are chasing the trailer, but it won’t be easy. The thieves removed the GPS tracker from the trailer. The thieves had abandoned the truck on a residential property in Miami. Authorities are looking for any leads that could lead to finding those who stole the Porsche race cars.
The assembly was parked in Pompano Beach, Florida, when the thieves broke into the truck around 3:00 a.m. and drove away. The GPS tracker, which has since been removed, showed Redland, Miami, three hours later, at 6:02 a.m.
Justin Bellinzoni, owner of Rennsport-One, says that in addition to the four customer Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport race cars, the trailer was also carrying spare parts, safety equipment and wheels. Each car is valued at around $350,000. Only one of them is insured. Rennsport-One is now offering a “large cash reward” to anyone who can track down the stolen cars.
The thieves either knew exactly what they were stealing or had no idea how valuable the cars were. They can't race them, because the racing community would immediately identify stolen cars. They can't drive them on the street because they aren't street legal. They can't sell them, either, because that would immediately raise questions. The only way to make a profit would be to sell the parts.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is powered by a 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, which delivers 493 horsepower (500 hp) and 450 Newton meters (330 lb-ft) of torque.
That's enough for a 0-62 mph sprint in 3.4 seconds, or just 3.9 seconds if the car is equipped with the PDK transmission. Whether manual or automatic, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS has a top speed of 195 mph (314 km/h). Now, the top speed of stolen cars is that of the truck that transports them.
