About two weeks ago, Google announced four new Pixel 9 smartphones: the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The non-foldable Pixels can charge wirelessly with Google's Pixel Stand 1 and Pixel Stand 2, but not the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Google explains that this is because “the position of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold's charging coil is not perfectly centered compared to previous Pixel phones,” and that “this could make it difficult to wirelessly charge your phone.”
However, Google said that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold “supports many other wireless chargers” and that “when using a different wireless charger, adjust the position of your phone so that it charges.” The brand also said, “To confirm if it is properly aligned, check the charging indicator on your phone.”
Google has shared the schematic of the Pixl 9 Pro Fold (see below) to show the position of the charging coil.
With the original Pixel Stand, the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro can charge wirelessly at up to 10W. However, with the Pixel Stand 2, the standard Pixel 9 jumps to 15W wireless, while the Pro and Pro XL jump to 21W and 23W, respectively.
Without support for the Pixel Stand 1 and Stand 2, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold can only charge at 7.5W with other wireless chargers. The lack of Pixel Stand support is unfortunate because the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the most expensive smartphone in the range.
