Mobvoi, the company behind the TicWatch brand, has just announced that it is now releasing the long-awaited Wear OS 4 update for the TicWatch Pro 5 and TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro.
In addition to the standard improvements that Google added in Wear OS 4, the update includes many more, such as improved TicMotion accuracy, optimized phone transfer, and better tracking of exercise data.
Among the most important new features that Mobvoi brings with this update are the ability to transfer the watch to a new smartphone without resetting to factory settings, as well as the new backup and restore function.
The latter helps users safely back up their data and settings from an old watch while keeping all data, settings, and watch faces intact. Below are other new features and improvements included in the latest Wear OS 4 update for the TicWatch Pro 5 series:
TicMotion extensions
- Cycle detection: Improvements to the accuracy of automatic cycle detection.
- Pre-identification display: During the pre-identification phase, the Ultra Low Power Display shows the training tile, allowing immediate access to the training data.
- Improved data detection: Increased frequency of data detection during pre-identification from once per minute to continuous detection per second, with additional GPS data.
TicExercise Extensions
- Added 25 new professional workouts: hiking, kayaking, cross-country skiing, padel, pickleball, crossfit, stepper and more.
- Improved workout data: Some workouts have been updated to outdoor workout categories with additional outdoor stats such as GPS, distance, and speed (including rowing, outdoor speed categories such as skating, and riding).
- Customize your workout list: Choose from organized genres, quickly add them to different workout sections, and drag to sort your list.
- Auto Pause: You can control the auto pause function for different exercise types independently (supports outdoor walking, outdoor running, indoor running, cycling, hiking and climbing).
- User interface improvements: Larger and clearer data display during training.
- Optimized calorie calculation: Improvements in the calculation of calorie tracking.
All-in-One TicHealth
- Integration of TicHealth, TicPulse, TicOxygen, TicZen and TicSleep into a unified TicHealth app.
Real-time data display
- Supports seamless integration of real-time data from apps like Strava, adidas Running and Nike Run Club on the Ultra Low Power Display (for eligible apps). View live metrics like heart rate, pace, distance and speed, as well as additional fitness data like calories, compass readings and altitude.
Further changes
- Optimizations for multi-language translation.
- Customizable watch face styles, colors and complications.
- The side button now supports customization to open a custom app (default is the recently used apps list).
- General bug fixes and stability improvements.
Both the TicWatch Pro 5 and TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro will receive the Wear OS 4 update starting in early September, so if you own either smartwatch, you can check right now to see if it's available.
