There are countless companies making RVs these days, from the no-frills and affordable to the high-budget and luxurious. One company I just discovered is Brown Bird and Co. Today, I'm taking a look at one of their older designs, which I'm sure will impress you as much as it did me.

Brown Bird and Co. is a company based in Thrisk, UK, specialising in “creating beautiful custom campers.” Its goal is to give customers the freedom to embark on unforgettable adventures. The company has been building campers since 2019 and its distinctive touches are the live-edge worktops and other oak features, as you will soon see on the vehicle I will tell you about today.

What we have here is a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with a medium wheelbase, converted in March 2022 into a tiny house on wheels suitable for full-time travel. As usual, I will start the tour with the outside.

This Sprinter van is finished all in black and has few exterior accessories. At the front, Brown Bird and Co. installed a raised air intake, also known as a snorkel. Contrary to popular belief, the primary purpose of a snorkel is not to allow you to drive through water, but rather to allow clean air to circulate through the engine. The closer the air intake is to the ground, the greater the chance that dust and other microparticles will enter the engine.

The vehicle rides on Black Rhino alloy wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires. Although the van is a 2WD, these tires will help it handle some light off-roading. Additionally, you’ll notice a spare tire carrier and a ladder on the back. Climb up the ladder and you’ll discover a custom roof rack that holds four 100W solar panels.

The truly magical transformation takes place inside. Slide open the door and you are greeted by a beautiful living space. The builders thought of every little detail, all of which come together to create a unique look that will delight your eyes.

Brown Bird and Co. went with a clean, black-and-white aesthetic that’s full of natural elements. You’ll notice the distinctive live-edge finishes on the countertop and backsplash above the garage, as well as plenty of oak accents. The look is completed with black cabinetry, a slatted oak ceiling with a black backdrop, and black accents, such as the window trim.

This rig has a closed layout, meaning a wall separates the driver's cabin from the living space. However, this wall has a large window through which you could crawl in an emergency.

Right in front of the entrance, the builders have designed an L-shaped kitchen. The most eye-catching detail is by far the live-edge countertop, but the copper accents, such as the sink faucet and the superb handmade lights, fit very well with the interior theme.

The kitchen features a surprisingly small sink and a built-in two-burner stove. Plus, a Maxx fan is positioned perfectly overhead to let all the cooking odors and fumes out.

As for storage, you can use four drawers, a pull-out spice rack, a top shelf with a live-edge oak bottom, and two cabinets. The one under the sink houses the basic plumbing system of the sink, which consists of a 12V pump connected to a cylinder.

The next part of the interior of this camper is the seating area, which is divided into two benches. The one on the right side of the interior houses a removable toilet and has some free space for a pet to sleep, while the other offers extra storage for jackets and shoes.

A solid oak table is integrated into the bed frame. It can be slid out and sits perfectly between the two benches. Also, underneath it, you will notice a 45-liter pull-out refrigerator in a trunk style.

Here you will also find a great storage feature. Three drawers are integrated into the bed frame. The one on the driver's side is very long, offering plenty of storage space. The other two drawers are smaller and on the opposite side.

The final part of the living space is the back bedroom. It boasts a queen-sized bed that is side-by-side, a small shelf, a swiveling iPad holder, a reading light, and two wall cabinets with a small shelf on one side. There is also a skylight above that allows you to stargaze from the comfort of your bed.

Like many other RVs, the bed is positioned higher to make room for a garage underneath. The garage has several compartments for convenient storage, as well as a cool feature I’ve never seen before: a slide-out tray designed to hold four 2.6-gallon (10-liter) water tanks.

When the kitchen container runs out, you have to replace it with another one from the garage. Manufacturers preferred this container configuration because it makes it much easier to fill the water tanks: you can do it at any fountain instead of looking for a hose to fill.

On the right side of the garage, you’ll find the power system. Its highlights are a 200Ah lithium battery, an MPPT charge controller connected to the solar panels, a DC-DC charger, and a 1,200W inverter. Brown Bird and Co. says the system is powerful enough to support long-term off-grid travel.

While we're on the subject of utilities, I should mention that there is no air conditioning in this van. Well, when you're travelling in the UK, you don't really need air conditioning. What you do need is a heater. This van has a diesel one mounted under the passenger seat.

All in all, this is a fantastic mobile home. I am a big fan of its interior design, which balances aesthetics and practicality superbly. And the price?

Brown Bird and Co. has not shared a quote for this vehicle, as the company's founders used it as a full-time home. However, a mid-wheelbase conversion starts at £30,000 ($39,652 or €35,380) + VAT. The company's website provides more information on services, pricing and conversion options.
