The vivo Y300 Pro will arrive next week, vivo president and general manager of brand and product strategy Jia Jingdong has revealed.
The phone will launch in China on September 5, and the executive wrote a lengthy post on Weibo, explaining all the key new features like a big battery and a four-part curved display and why they're important to the company.
The Y series is vivo's best-selling phone line in China, and Jia explained that the company wants to bring flagship features to its most affordable phones. That's why the new phone will feature a carbon silicon battery – the same technology used in the vivo X Fold3 and Fold3 Pro. However, here, the capacity will be larger, and the Y300 Pro will have a 6,500mAh cell – the first mainstream phone to reach such a capacity in 2024.
The new battery technology with its higher density allows vivo to build a thin phone with this capacity – it will be only 7.69 mm thick. On top of that, the company offers 80W fast charging and reverse charging, and promises that the battery will be able to retain its capacity for five years.
The display is announced as being quadruple-curved, and this is the first time vivo has opted for this design, claiming that it will create a “fully symmetrical” appearance. Additionally, it will have a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, SGS certification for blue light filtering and anti-flicker.
The Y300 Pro will be all-weather dust and rain resistant, which could mean anything between IP53 and IP68, but we don't expect to see an official IP rating since the company typically doesn't bother certifying its devices for the Chinese market.
The camera island on the back looks similar to the flagship X100 series, following the “360-degree solar design”. It will be a dual-camera setup, with the main camera featuring a 50MP sensor. The selfie camera will have a 32MP image sensor.
There are seven days left until the official launch. We expect vivo to reveal more specifications about the Y300 Pro in the coming days.
