Google's software support window for the Pixel 8a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold is seven years. That's the longest period of time in mobile, and the company deserves credit for making such a promise — we're willing to bet that most people would have upgraded their phones long before those seven years were up.
When it comes to smartwatches, Google has taken a very different approach. The original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 both come with a three-year warranty on software support, and the Pixel Watch 3 is in exactly the same situation.
Of course, Google may decide to release some updates to the Pixel Watch 3 even after October 2027 (which is oddly the cutoff month even though the watch was announced in August), but that's not a given. So here we have an interesting disparity in how smartwatches are designed.phones and intelligentwatches are treated from this point of view, even if they are all intelligent devices we are talking about.
Maybe you think you'll replace your smartwatch more often than your phone, or maybe it's just a cynical calculation based on the much lower retail price. Either way, keep in mind that a Pixel Watch won't last as long as a Pixel phone, software-wise.
