Bethesda took the successful gameplay formula from Fallout Shelter and applied it to its other cult franchise, The Elder Scrolls. The result is a game called The Elder Scrolls: Castles, which soft-launched in January.
Today, Bethesda announced that The Elder Scrolls: Castles will launch worldwide for iOS and Android on September 10. Although it is a free-to-play game, there are many in-app purchases, including a paid subscription option, bundles, and many more monetization options.
In Elder Scrolls: Castles, players can customize their castles from the ground up by adding and expanding rooms, placing decorations, and assigning jobs to subjects to ensure the castle has enough resources to thrive.
The more interesting part of the game allows players to create heroes, equip them with powerful gear, and send them into battle against classic Elder Scrolls enemies to collect valuable items that will help them grow their kingdom.

According to the developers, each real-life day in The Elder Scrolls: Castles spans the time span of an entire year, so it seems like a pretty challenging game that could be addictive. Bethesda has already opened pre-registration for The Elder Scrolls: Castles on both the App Store and Google Play Store. There are also some milestone rewards for pre-registration if goals are met.
- 500,000 pre-registrations: 100 gems, 1x Blessing of Great Destiny
- 1 million pre-registrations: 1x Legendary Package, 3x Banner Decoration
- 2 million pre-registrations: 1x Ulfric Stormcloak (legendary theme)
Along with the game's release date, Bethesda also released a developer diary video that provides more in-depth details on The Elder Scrolls: Castles for those who haven't played the soft launch version yet.
