The Del Rey Camper is made for adventures that involve off-road driving and wild camping.

As more and more people are willing to abandon convention and embrace an adventurous lifestyle, the popularity and variety of RVs continues to grow. When it comes to RVs, there is no one size or configuration that fits all, as people have different needs and wants. But if your plan is to embark on adventures that involve off-road driving and boondocking in remote areas, you need a capable rig like the new Del Rey RV from Boho Camper Vans.

Boho Camper Vans is a Tempe, Arizona-based van supplier founded in 2018 that started as a van rental company and has grown to become one of the largest RV manufacturing facilities in the United States, with hundreds of campers built to date. Having a rental fleet means their vans are battle-tested by real customers on all types of adventures, and builders receive valuable feedback on their features and components. This allows the company to constantly adapt and improve their models, demonstrating the team’s commitment to matching individuals with their ideal vehicle.

Designed for the outdoorsman and travel enthusiast, the company’s next-generation “Del Rey” Lava Van is a go-anywhere, do-anything vehicle. Built with premium materials and packed with trusted features and technology, like off-road suspension upgrades, a 48V power system, Cruise N Comfort AC, and an indoor shower, it’s a mobile habitat ready to take you deeper into the wilderness than ever before—and stay there longer.

The new off-road, off-grid camper can be built on a Ford Transit, RAM ProMaster, or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, but in this article we’ll focus on the model on display, which is based on a RAM ProMaster chassis and includes all the creature comforts adventurers dream of having in their mobile home.

Even from the outside, the Del Rey is a sight to behold, with its eye-catching Spitfire Orange paint job and custom Monument Valley-inspired body cladding. To transform the standard van into an overlanding machine, the builders beefed up the rear suspension with SumoSprings, installed a Van Compass 1.5″ Lift Kit for extra ground clearance, and added Black Rhino Yellowstone Matte Bronze wheels with Toyo Open Country A/T III tires. Other exterior upgrades include SteelCraft side rails, a Backwoods Adventure Mods front bumper, a roof rack with ladder, and a 12,000-pound winch with steel cable and wireless remote.

The Lava Van Next-Gen “Del Rey” is also ready for dry camping in remote locations. It features a top-of-the-line electrical system powered by a prototype Battle Born Batteries Intelligent 48V 13 kWh Battery Bank that can run your van for long periods. Works in combination with Victron Energy components (inverter, charge controller, battery monitor, etc.) and up to 800W of solar panels on the roof.

The intelligent electrical system, coupled with 28 gallons of fresh water, a 25-gallon grey water tank, a high-efficiency air conditioner, an Eberspacher Airtronic gasoline heater and a portable toilet, make living off the grid a hassle-free experience.

Stepping inside the Del Rey camper, you’ll discover the same rustic cabin look that’s become a staple of BoHo Vans builds, with warm Western red cedar planks on the walls and ceiling, laminated Baltic birch cabinetry, and solid oak counters and tables. However, designers have finished the interior with unique features that explain the “Lava Van” nickname, like a dramatic custom Lava Fields ceiling sconce and a lava-effect epoxy cast table. A stunning recessed wall shelf with backlit “Antelope Canyon” acrylic above the bed adds another level of sophistication to the design.

In terms of layout, this van boasts an open bulkhead configuration, so you can move freely from the front to the back of the living space. At the front, the driver and passenger seats are on swivel supports for extra seating space, and a space-saving Tetra Van shower with folding curtain is neatly integrated into a kitchen cabinet next to the sliding side door. This cabinet also houses a portable cassette toilet.

In the middle of the van, there is a galley-style kitchen, followed by a dinette with a bench and a pull-out table. The comfortable sleeping area is located in the rear of the van and features a fixed east-west bed with ample storage underneath. The atmosphere inside is cozy and pleasant and you have everything you need for comfortable outdoor adventures.

The kitchen offers plenty of storage in cabinets and drawers (including overhead cabinets), multiple work areas, and modern appliances, including a Dometic refrigerator/freezer, two-burner induction cooktop, Contour microwave, and sink. Custom details make the kitchen stand out, such as the recessed windowsill that creates extra space to display kitchen trinkets, the “Magma” tile backsplash and waterfall-effect counter inlay, and the pull-out pantry with wave-shaped shelves.

The adjacent dinette has two built-in storage benches with “Gilbert Camel” leather upholstery, while the queen-sized bed in the rear has a 6-inch memory foam mattress and measures 54” x 75” (137 x 190 cm) with no overhangs. Beneath the bed platform is a large garage space that houses all the electrical components. It is accessible from both inside and outside the van and offers plenty of room to store camping gear, outdoor sports equipment, and other personal items.

In terms of price, a Boho Vans build typically starts at $40,000, and the company offers a variety of customization options. For the Next-Gen Upgrade, which includes the powerful smart energy system, 48V high-efficiency AC unit, and custom Baltic birch cabinetry, as seen in the Del Rey camper featured here, customers must pay an additional $28,000.
