In the 1960s, large cars were the fortune of American automakers, and while the Chevrolet Impala dominated this sector, becoming the best-selling model in the country, Buick placed its bets heavily on the Electra 225.
Like Chevrolet, Buick has sought to improve the Electra with each new model, making it bigger and more comfortable without neglecting the power under the hood.
One of the most notable changes to the Electra lineup during the 1960s was the introduction of the all-new 430ci engine. It debuted in 1967 specifically to replace the 401 and 425 units, and the 430 V8 became the sole engine choice in the Electra series.
The 430 continued to be offered on the 1969 Electra, when the car was redesigned and trimmed to match the full-size approach in GM's lineup. It also received Bendix front disc brakes with four-piston calipers.
A 1969 Buick Electra 225 hit eBay earlier this week with an interesting promise. Seller houstomcadam_0 says the car is completely original and factory-stock, which should mean this Electra has never been modified. It has the same configuration as day one, so if you restore it to its former glory, this Electra should look just like the day it rolled off the assembly line.
The vehicle is still in good condition despite being parked in a yard, but I would imagine it hasn't been sitting out in the clear skies for long. The owner isn't sharing any other details, but the photos indicate a solid body, so the only thing I would inspect more closely is the frame. The floors require a closer inspection, as they are an easy way to determine how much time this Buick has spent outside.
The engine under the hood is the original 430ci unit with 360 horsepower, and the owner says it was running and driving before the battery died. You should bring in a new battery and see what's going on under the hood before you bid, but I don't expect the engine to pose any significant problems.
Otherwise, it's hard to find anything to walk away from if you like full-size cars and are a big fan of old Buicks. The car has everything you'd need to get started on a restoration, and it's hard to believe it'll be around for long if the owner doesn't have very optimistic sales expectations.
The owner listed this Electra on eBay with a price tag of $5,000, but also hit the Make Offer button to hear what others have to say about the asking price. The car is parked in Georgetown, Texas, and you have about six days to submit your offer. You’ll likely need a trailer to get this Electra to your garage, considering it hasn’t been on the road lately.
