By the late 1950s, larger cars began to gain more and more popularity, which is why the Chevrolet Impala was an almost immediate success.

The Bonneville was no exception, and considering it sported the longest wheelbase in the Pontiac lineup, it quickly captured the market's attention. It was the most expensive model sold by the GM brand, but that didn't seem to bother potential buyers, especially as Pontiac launched other body styles.

The new Bonneville was available as a convertible, a two-door hardtop, and several four-door body styles, the Vista hardtop and the Custom Safari station wagon.

Regardless of which version customers ordered, the Bonneville could only be purchased with a 389 engine. However, Pontiac offered multiple horsepower versions of the same engine, with the base engine developing 215 horsepower and the top configuration producing 345 horsepower.

The 1959 Bonneville convertible in these photos still sports the original 389, but eBay seller oldstillwatergarage1 has some bad news on that front. The engine is currently frozen, which makes sense considering the car has been off the road for nearly five decades.

The owner parked the car in 1976 and it has spent the last 25 years in a barn. Despite its long absence from the road, the vehicle comes with clean floors, although that doesn't mean the metal is pristine. The body needs some attention and a full respray, although the owner says you'll also get a few extra parts, including fenders and moldings.

The car has never been restored, but now needs a complete overhaul after many years in storage. It is still all original and complete, but considering five decades off the road, some parts are no longer in perfect condition. You should see the car in person or arrange for a third-party inspection before bidding, as the Bonneville appears to qualify for a full restoration.

The car ticks all the boxes for a collector's item, and a thorough restoration would make it a real gem on wheels. 1959 Bonnevilles can sell for a small fortune, especially in original condition, so I don't expect this project to be around for long.

The eBay seller knows he has a rare classic, which is why he won't let it go cheap. He's listed the car on eBay with a price tag of $38K, but the Make Offer option is also available if you want it but don't want to pay that much.

In the meantime, everyone is advised to arrange an in-person viewing, and you will need to travel to Stillwater, New Jersey to see it in person. Otherwise, you will need transportation home if you agree to pay the steep price.
