Tecno is no stranger to the world of foldable smartphones and the brand is not afraid to show off its R&D experiments from time to time. After last year's Phantom Ultimate rollable concept, Tecno now presents the Phantom Ultimate 2, a tri-fold concept device with a 10-inch diagonal unfolding screen.
Current horizontal foldable tablets already blur the line between smartphones and small tablets, but the Phantom Ultimate 2 offers an even larger screen that rivals full-size tablets. It can go from a screen size of 6.48 inches when folded up to a 10-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 1,620 x 2,880 px and an aspect ratio of 4:3.

Tecno claims that the Phantom Ultimate 2 is the first foldable smartphone to feature TDDI technology that places both the display driver and touch sensor on a single chip. It also supports hovering and is incredibly thin, measuring just 11mm when fully folded thanks to a dual-hinge mechanism developed by Tecno. Tecno tested the elaborate hinge mechanism for 300,000 folds. The brand has also developed the thinnest battery cover of any smartphone, measuring just 0.25mm.
The dual hinges also help minimize the screen crease in the middle of the display. Tecno envisions several unique use cases for the Phantom Ultimate 2, including a laptop model with the bottom half folded with a keyboard for note-taking. Tent mode positions two equal parts of the screen on opposite sides for seamless face-to-face conversations across two screens with live translation.
The Phantom Ultimate 2's massive 10-inch display also supports multi-window mode which lets you run three or more apps at once for a less restricted multitasking experience.
Tecno is yet to reveal its exact plans for the launch of its first foldable device, but this is certainly an exciting first glimpse into the future of the foldable market.
