T-Mobile's own-brand Android smartphone lineup added its newest members, the Revvl 7 and Revvl 7 Pro, a few weeks ago. And while the Revvl 7 is still safely on sale at T-Mobile retail locations and third-party partners, the same can't be said for the Revvl 7 Pro.
This device has been recalled by T-Mobile from all of its stores and retail partners. It is no longer for sale. This is a rather unprecedented move, especially since the carrier has not announced a reason for the recall.
Instead, all we can do is rely on the leaked memo you can see above, through which the Magenta carrier informs its partners that they must immediately return any Revvl 7 Pro units they may still have, including demos.
The move was apparently made in an effort to “maintain our high quality standards,” T-Mobile said, without elaborating. The carrier is “proactively recovering current units” from its partners’ inventory. That doesn’t mean the phone has been discontinued, though. T-Mobile says it is “working to make more Revvl 7 Pro stock available soon to allow for a rapid recovery of sales.”
The instructions say to mark devices as “unhappy customer” in the system, but that's probably just because the system may not have a more relevant option presented.
While the reason for this phenomenon is unclear, some employees have reported that the Revvl 7 Pro's Phone app is constantly crashing on many devices, which could certainly be considered a reason for such a recall. After all, if you can't make calls, a phone loses one of its most important features.
Regardless, T-Mobile should also officially inform those who have already purchased a Revvl 7 Pro of what's going on – and if the defect it's discovered in those units isn't fixable via a software update, then it should issue an official recall to customers as well.
