In 2009, T-Mobile introduced Direct Carrier Billing for Android users, which allowed subscribers to bill their digital purchases through their T-Mobile account. An update to Google's Help Center says this option will soon be unavailable.
For users, carrier billing is a convenient way to pay for apps, books, and games on Google Play, especially if they don't have a credit card. T-Mobile lets you charge your account up to $80 per line per month for third-party content. This means you can pay for your digital purchases without worrying about going over your budget.
Unfortunately, for those who have been using this payment method, it will be discontinued on August 29. If this was your default payment method, you will need to update your payment information, especially if you have a Play subscription and don't want recurring payments to be interrupted.
Starting August 29, T-Mobile Phone Billing will no longer be accepted as a payment method for new subscriptions on the Google Play Store. If you already have a Play subscription billed by T-Mobile Phone, update your payment method before September 2024 to avoid any disruption.
Google Play Help, August 2024
Doesn't matter, T-Mobile The elimination of Google Play billing is no surprise considering that Verizon and AT&T stopped supporting it in 2022. With so many payment options emerging between the carrier billing announcement and today, it is possible that only a small number of T-Mobile Subscribers rely on this option, which may be why the decision was made to discontinue it.
We await an official announcement from T-Mobile soon, as August 29th is not far away and users should be notified in advance to give them time to set up an alternative payment method rather than catching them off guard.
