Google's Satellite SOS feature is now rolling out to the Pixel 9 series. The feature was announced at the launch of the phones. It's only available in the US for now and will be free for the first two years. It's not yet known how much the service will cost after that.
To use Satellite SOS, Google Messages must be the default messaging app on your Pixel 9. Once you receive the notification that the service is live, go to Settings > Safety & Emergency > Satellite SOS to learn more about it and see a demo showing you how it works.

Before contacting emergency services through Satellite SOS, you’ll need to answer a few questions about your emergency situation to ensure you get the best help possible in your particular situation. Note that when your phone uses Satellite SOS, it shares your name, email address, phone number, location, device details, and emergency contact information with emergency services and satellite service providers. Google has partnered with Skylo for the backend, while Garmin handles emergency response.
