It's clear that Q Cars on YouTube, who signed off on these renders, used the current Mercedes-Benz GLS as a starting point for these CGIs. However, instead of also looking at spy photos of the real car, the pixel manipulator decided to take a strange approach.
First things first, the 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLS's front fascia won't look anything like this. Here, it's been inspired by the company's EQ models, hence the quirky approach. Also, don't look for those square exhaust tips unless you opt for the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63.
The front and rear bumpers have nothing in common with the real car, and the same goes for the lighting units on both ends. The headlights and taillights will feature a star-shaped signature, which is certainly fitting for the three-pointed star's flagship crossover. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the brand's upcoming models will get this design feature, as we think it looks great on modern Mercedes vehicles.

Back in the real world, it looks like Mercedes is taking its time developing the next GLS. However, it’s not a completely new generation, but a second mid-cycle refresh. This move should keep the model competitive for a few more years, until Mercedes decides what’s best for its future. Rumors are that it could be introduced late next year, but we think it could be a bit sooner, at least in Benz’s guise.
Unsurprisingly, Mercedes will also give the AMG and Maybach versions of the current GLS a similar look, as they will all feature the star-shaped gadget in the front and rear light units, as well as other potential visual and technical upgrades. However, the AMG and Maybach variants will receive some unique touches revolving around their bumpers, grilles, wheels, and paint finishes, as well as the interior, as while the former is a sporty model, the latter is all about luxury.
We've yet to find out if the cabin will get any serious changes (for a facelift) or if Mercedes will call it a day after giving it new software and perhaps some new trim and upholstery. Our bet is on more extensive updates, given that this model is set to be around for a few more years. I imagine we'll know more as time goes on and the camouflage thins out. In the meantime, all we're left with are a few spy shots and the occasional rendering.
So, do you think the GLS looks better with a traditional front end or with an EQ-inspired facelift? We leaned toward the former, as we've always found the brand's EQ models to be a bit on the nose.
