We recently learned that Lincoln is planning two new models. While logic dictates that they are crossovers, a small part of us is hoping that at least one will be a sedan. After all, the automotive world, especially in the United States, needs more traditional cars, doesn't it?

The truth is, not many people know what these next cars will be, but one could serve as a successor to the Corsair, given that the kid-friendly crossover is due to go out of production in 2025. Of course, we could also be looking at a new compact high-rider, perhaps one made in China, although then again, an all-new Continental would definitely be on the list if we were the ones placing orders with Lincoln.

The nameplate died in 2020 after ten generations, with the last copy rolling off the assembly line at the Flat Rock factory in the United States. Lincoln prepared the mighty Coach Door Editions as the Continental's swan song, but despite its elevated appearance and enhanced premium appeal, it was still built on the old CD4 platform, just like the Chinese Taurus. The Lincoln MKZ and Ford Fusion (Mondeo) used different versions of the same construction.

Since the Lincoln Continental went missing about four years ago, we’ve heard occasional rumors that the automaker might bring it back, though not necessarily for the U.S. We think a brand-new Continental would be a much-needed breath of fresh air in the company’s current crossover-only lineup, which includes the Navigator, Aviator, Nautilus, and Corsair. Plus, if priced right, it should sell in large enough numbers to justify the investment, and given the brand’s increased sales, it could eventually become profitable.

Mind you, this is just our two cents, and there’s no indication that Lincoln is preparing an all-new Continental—or any other traditional passenger car, for that matter. However, the rumored 11th-generation Lincoln Navigator has become a favorite among the rendering crowd, which is why we’ve seen several unofficial revivals in recent months.

The latest one came via Q Cars on YouTube and features a large family sedan with a typical front fascia adorned with a large Lincoln logo. The model has traditional proportions, regular wheels shod with regular tires, a Lincoln-branded trunk lid, exhaust tips incorporated into discreet diffuser cutouts, blacked-out taillights and a fresh exterior color sprinkled with chrome accents.

There are still a few parts that are virtually finished, but overall, these digital illustrations aren't bad at all, and we could see ourselves supporting a project like this. It's a shame Lincoln doesn't care about the Continental nameplate anymore. But would you buy one if, by some miracle, they decided to try?
