The UX has been hit with a recall that affects some 2025 models. According to documents filed by Toyota Motor North America with the U.S. auto regulator, the wiring harness that supplies power to the motor-generator’s electronic control unit could break, resulting in a sudden loss of drive power.
In January 2024, the supplier informed Toyota of potentially misrouted cables in the main engine room wiring harness. If subjected to additional bending stress, some cables could break. Both Toyota and the supplier conducted a series of bench durability tests, confirming that one of the two generator motors electronic control unit Power fires can fracture.
If both power cables go kaput, the subcompact crossover will experience a loss of drive power. The supplier confirmed that both cables could break and separate as part of a vibration test. Before filing the recall documentation with the National Highway Traffic Safety AdministrationThe automaker was not aware of any reports or complaints regarding this issue.
141 of these vehicles were produced for the U.S. market between January 9 and January 17, 2024. The main engine room wiring harness for the 2025 Lexus UX 300h is listed under three part numbers. Toyota has instructed Lexus dealers nationwide to replace the affected wiring harness with a new one at no charge to affected customers. UX 300h owners will be notified of recall number 24V-587 via first-class mail between September 23 and October 7.
Both the suspect and replacement harnesses come from the Yazaki Corporation, which specializes in harnesses, connectors, terminals, instruments, and similar goodies. Founded in 1929, Yazaki operates a regional office in Canton Township, Michigan.
