Qualcomm Quietly Introduces Snapdragon 6 Gen 3

Qualcomm's latest chipset is called the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and quietly appeared on the company's website over the weekend. The new mid-range platform comes as the successor to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, as the company seems to have forgotten that there's no second-gen version of the 4nm chip.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 brings improved AI performance for tasks like activity tracking and noise cancellation during calls. The chip is very similar to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 with some downgrades in the processor and display.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is powered by an octa-core processor – four Cortex-A78 cores at 2.4 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8 GHz, matching the configuration architecture of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, but with slightly less efficiency in terms of core clocks (the 7s Gen 2 runs at 1.95 GHz). The other difference is that the 6 Gen 3 supports displays with a resolution of up to Full HD+ at a refresh rate of 120 Hz, rather than 144 Hz, like the 7s.

Qualcomm has used an Adreno 710 GPU and the chip supports both older versions of LPDDR4X RAM and newer versions of LPDDR5 RAM, but only UFS 3.1 storage. Connectivity support on the new chip also includes Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E.

Camera-wise, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 can handle a single 48MP sensor for continuous readings, dual 32MP and 16MP sensors, or up to 200MP photo capture.

Qualcomm has not issued an official press release on the chipset, and we don't know when the product will be available to OEMs.
