The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC was just unveiled this morning, and Qualcomm has now made it official. This 4nm chip should slot just below the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in Qualcomm's portfolio (and the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is the top performer in the family, for what it's worth).
Qualcomm promises that the new chip will bring “remarkable AI experiences to more affordable smartphones,” and has already received orders from Samsung, Realme, and Sharp. These brands will announce the first devices equipped with this chip “in the coming months.” However, they will all be beaten by Xiaomi, which will be the first to use the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, in a phone that will be unveiled in September.
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 delivers 20% better CPU performance, 40% faster GPU, 30% better AI performance, and 12% overall power savings compared to the 7s Gen 2. The power savings on the CPU side alone are 45%. The Kryo processor has 1 Prime core clocked up to 2.5GHz, 3 Performance cores clocked up to 2.4GHz, and 4 Efficiency cores clocked up to 1.8GHz. Up to 16GB of RAM is supported and UFS 3.1 storage.
The chip features in-device generative AI capabilities thanks to the dedicated AI Engine NPU. It also supports AI-based noise suppression and reduction, as well as 200MP photo and 4K HDR video capture. The Spectra Triple ISP enables simultaneous photo and video capture, with ultra-fast parallel processing and smooth zooming.
Displays up to FHD+ and 144Hz are supported, while for gaming you get Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0, Variable Rate Shading (which dynamically renders objects in a scene), Adreno HDR Fast Blend (for dynamic and complex scenes) and Vulkan 1.3 API support.
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 supports 5G mmWave and Sub-6, SA and NSA, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, Glonass, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS and NavIC.
