Polestar 3 pledges allegiance to the USA, production begins in South Carolina

The Polestar 3 is now officially born in the USA. In fact, it is the first model of the brand to come to life in our market and production has just begun at the plant in South Carolina.

According to the automaker, the electric crossover is born in South Carolina for the US and European markets, and is also produced in Chengdu, China. Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath described this model as “improve” one out there.

Producing the Polestar 3 in the USA is a crucial step for us. We now offer American customers an electric SUV built in America. Exporting the Polestar 3 produced in South Carolina to Europe will strengthen our business on a broader scale,” said CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “The Polestar 3 has received stellar reviews from global automotive media, with strong customer interest in test drives. I firmly believe this is the best looking and best handling SUV on the market today.

Introduced in 2022 and delayed several times due to various issues, the Polestar 3 uses familiar underpinnings. It is based on the SPA2 construction, shared with the Volvo EX90 electric crossover. Both have similar proportions and benefit exclusively from battery-electric firepower. The older SPA platform (1) underpins a lot of Volvos, from the S60 and XC60 to the S90 and XC90. It is also the cornerstone of the defunct Polestar 1 and the Lynk & Co 09.

While production of the Polestar 3 has just begun at the South Carolina factory for the Western world, the automaker has already announced its pricing and specifications for the United States. Here, interested parties can choose between several configurations.

The lineup starts with the Long Range Dual-Motor trim level, which has 620 lb-ft (840 Nm) of torque and 483 hp (490 ps/360 kW). 0-60 mph (97 km/h) is a 4.8-second affair, and top speed is 130 mph (kph). The Long Range Dual-Motor with Performance Pack increases boost and power to 671 lb-ft (910 Nm) and 510 PS (517 ps/380 kW), shaving acceleration off three-tenths of a second while maintaining the same top speed.

The Polestar 3 Long Range Dual-Motor offers an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 315 miles (507 km), while the 3 Long Range Dual-Motor with the Performance Pack can travel up to 279 miles (449 km) on a full charge. DC charging from 10 to 80 percent takes half an hour, while a full charge from 0 to 100 percent with an AC connection takes 11 hours. The former model starts at $73,400 and the latter at $79,400 in our market. The Polestar 3 is also available in a Launch Edition configuration, and interested parties will have to pay at least $78,900 for this variant.
