Yesterday, a rumor claimed that all iPhone 17 models would come with 12GB of RAM, compared to 8GB on the iPhone 16 family. Today, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo provided some clarification.
According to him, only the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have 12GB of RAM, while the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Slim will have 8GB, just like the upcoming iPhone SE).
With that in mind, Apple is likely to turn the enhanced on-device AI capabilities into a major selling point specifically for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and not the entire lineup.
The Pro Max will also get an improved cooling system that combines vapor chamber technology with graphite sheets. The rest of the iPhone 17 family will use only graphite sheets, just like previous models.
According to Kuo, the Pro Max currently accounts for nearly 40% of iPhone sales, making it Apple's flagship product in terms of revenue and profit. Therefore, the differentiation strategy of keeping the best specifications for the Pro Max is likely to continue.
