OmniVision has announced its latest 50MP OV50M40 sensor, intended for use in smartphone main, ultra-wide, telephoto, or front-facing cameras. The 0.61µm pixel CMOS image sensor comes in a 1/2.88-inch optical format and features 4-cell binning, HDR video, and an always-on feature for motion detection and ultra-low power consumption.
OmniVision OV50M40
It supports shifted HDR and single-exposure Dual Analog Gain (DAG) HDR technology, phase detection autofocus (PDAF) for binned and full-resolution modes. It offers high-quality tele-crop zoom with 2x or 3x options.
The OV50M40 is based on OmniVision's PureCel Plus-S stacked array technology with support for full 50MP images at 12fps and 12.5MP images at 60fps. It is also capable of shooting 4K video at 60fps and 1080p video at 120fps.
The OV50M40 will be available for OEM sampling in Q3 2024 while mass production is planned for Q4.
