Let's jump to today, Mercedes-AMG has posted some teasers on its social media pages. Instead of posting blurry and indistinct photos that partially reveal the car, the automaker decided to put the spotlight on the pre-production model, so it showed two completely camouflaged prototypes of this car.
You know what happens next, right? Yes, that would be a side-by-side comparison with the study, and to no surprise, the production-ready variant is nearly identical. It features the same long nose and identical bumper with AMG branding on the upper grille trim, similar side air intakes, and side blades that continue further back behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels.
The headlights and their graphics also look the same. Mercedes-AMG has given the Mythos PureSpeed different side mirrors and a slightly smaller (from what we can tell) aerodynamic screen. It still lacks a proper windshield and a roof over the passenger compartment, but those will be some of its highlights. It has flying buttresses behind the seats, reminiscent of the 300 SLR that won the 1955 Mille Miglia, and even the rear end looks the same as the concept.

You see, the Affalterbach brand refrained from releasing technical details when it revealed the study in May this year, yet it is widely believed that the show car would feature the same powertrain as the SL 63. If so, it could enjoy 577 hp (585 ps/430 kW) and 590 ft-lbs (800 Nm) of torque. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 launches the regular SL 63 from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and enables a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h), three-tenths slower and twelve mph (20 km/h) faster than the SL 55's 469 hp (476 ps/350 kW) and 516 ft-lbs (700 Nm) of torque.
According to initial reports, Mercedes-AMG will limit production of the Mythos PureSpeed to 250 units. The model is part of the Mythos series and features a number of upgrades and changes over the regular SL, including seating for just two, a halo roll cage, and a small aerodynamic windshield. Oh, and helmets, which are said to be specially designed for this car and aerodynamically optimized (whatever that means), are included in the sale.
Sitting above the recently unveiled Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram, which is the first-ever Maybach-badged SL, the next Mythos PureSpeed is likely a few months away. It’s the company’s first model in the Mythos sub-brand, which will compete with Ferrari and Aston Martin.
