I don't like damaged cars, but this rare turquoise Pontiac GTO convertible is fabulous.

The 1969 model year did not bring good news to the GTO range in terms of sales, as the goat was hit hard by the anti-muscle car movement started by insurers. Insurance companies no longer wanted to spend a lot of money on accidents caused by these cars' monster engines, so skyrocketing rates were an obvious result.

The GTO took a hit, with Pontiac ultimately selling just 72,000 units. The hardtop was still the top choice, while the convertible was far behind with only 7,328 units.

One of these convertibles hit eBay not long ago, and the first thing most people will notice is its gorgeous color.

I don't have any figures (and please share in the comments section below if you have any more info on this), but I have rarely seen a Crystal Turquoise GTO convertible. eBay seller classicaddictions claims this is the original color, but as anyone can see after checking the photos in the gallery, part of it has already been destroyed.

This GTO was involved in a car accident in 2020 and has been sitting since then, so in addition to the obvious bodywork repairs, it will also require the usual maintenance.

To make matters worse, the car, which has been sitting for nearly five years, has also been targeted by thieves. Like all good things in life, this GTO has endured so many hardships that getting it back on the road today will set it back over $20,000, according to the owner. The battery, carburetor, air filter, spare tire, jack, and other parts were all stolen while the car was still in storage.

The GTO is mated to a 400 HO engine, but its condition is currently unknown. Don't expect bad news, though, as the car was running prior to the accident. A good mechanic should be able to tell more with a quick inspection, but keep in mind that some parts, including the carburetor, are no longer available.

The GTO has spent its entire life in California, so you won't have to deal with rust. The owner says the hubcaps and stereo are no longer available.

The car ended up on eBay with a high price tag, but that’s not necessarily a surprise considering its overall shape (not counting the accident damage) and original paint. The auction starts at $20,000, but the owner has also set a reserve, although its value is currently unknown. However, any potential buyer should read the seller’s full description and arrange for an in-person or third-party inspection before committing to a purchase.

The car is located in Neosho, Missouri, and you'll need transportation to get it home. The auction site says nearly 50 people have already added the GTO to their watchlists.
