Huge success? Google has already sold out of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is apparently on track to be the best foldable phone of the year, with stock levels suggesting there is more demand for the foldable device than Google expected.

The Porcelain model sold out on the Google Store in a day and now you can't pre-order the only other color variant, Obsidian, either. While the 256GB model doesn't show as sold out, it also appears to be sold out on Google, as you can only request a “notification” at the moment.

The situation is no better at Best Buy and Amazon, with most configurations sold out at both. Amazon still has the 256GB Obsidian model, but we bet it won't be long before that model is out of stock too.

Considering the phone was announced just four days ago, it already seems to be quite a success, and that's hardly a surprise.

The first Pixel Fold was a remarkable device for a first attempt and pretty much all of its shortcomings have been addressed in this generation. First of all, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold features the same Tensor G4 chips as the rest of the Pixel 9 line, which PixelFoldwhich was equipped with the Tensor G2. It also has more RAM (16 GB) and the same Gemini AI features as its stablemates.

The design of the phone has been updated. It is no longer as wide as before and has larger and brighter internal and external screens. The phone is also thinner and lighter than the PixelFold.

Considering that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a minimal improvement over the Fold 5 and OnePlus didn’t even bother to release a sequel to its excellent Open device, it’s easy to understand why customers are rushing to get the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

That said, the fact that the phone is selling out so quickly doesn't necessarily mean it's a huge success. Other factors like supply issues could also play a role.
