Hot Wheels Drag Bus is the special Volkswagen you asked for

I'm back home after three crazy days on the track with my RX-7. I must have slept for 15 hours straight, because tomorrow I'm about to embark on an even wilder journey.

I'll be driving some of the most epic cars ever created on one of the most incredible roads in the world. And I might even bring along some Hot Wheels merchandise to take some awesome photos on the road. I'm always happy to have little replicas of the vehicles I love; it motivates me to keep striving to add them to my garage in the future.

Not much has happened in the community these past few days, other than news about the Red Line Club sELECTION. This is Mattel’s way of giving their followers a chance to pick their next exclusive collectible, something they’ve been doing since 2004. Back then, people voted for the Chevy Nomad, which won against seven other contenders.

Two of the most recent models in sELECTIONs are the Spectraflame Bright Orange '69 Chevrolet Camaro SS and the Spectraflame Aqua Kawa-Bug-A. Of course, we can't overlook the Spectraflame Ice Blue '82 Lamborghini Countach LP500 S, which was just as exciting. It's almost crazy to think you can still get one for under $50.

The Red Line Club series still has plenty of surprises for 2024, while the Mainline collection is already over this year. Three models arrived in August: the '61 Lincoln Continental, the 1992 GMC Typhoon, and the 1970 Mustang Boss 302. And now it's time for the Volkswagen Drag Bus to shine again. Phil Riehlman designed the casting in the mid-1990s, and Mattel has developed over 90 variations so far.

The 2017 MEA Dinner Dance is one of the most coveted models on the market, with some eBay listings showing a price tag of over $2,000. Surprisingly, the 2005 Treasure Hunt iteration ranges between $50 and $100, which is reasonable. The 2024 sELECTIONs Drag Bus should be a big hit with collectors everywhere, judging by the tilting body.

It was obvious to everyone that this casting would win the challenge, as it would compete with the '93 Mustang Cobra R, Jaguar E-Type, BMW M3, and Monte Carlo Lowrider. The Spectraflame Teal finish with yellow and orange accents is awesome, but I've noticed that some collectors would prefer a different design than the Real Riders 5-Spoke Mag wheels.

This is no longer an option and I don't think it will deter many from placing an order once the collectible becomes available on September 5, 2024 at 9:00 AM PT. The best part is that the sale window is open until September 19, with no purchase limit. This means that everyone has a chance to own this collectible and hopefully the open market prices won't be as ridiculous as with other RLC items.
