The Honor Magic V3 is the thinnest foldable smartphone ever made: less than 4.4 mm unfolded and 9.2 mm folded. The company will launch the foldable smartphone internationally on September 5 and, for this reason, it is going all out with promotional activities, its latest operation being a direct attack on one of its competitors.
Honor has issued “the world’s tiniest apology” to Samsung owners who purchased a Galaxy Z Fold device. The 166 words of apology are etched on the Magic V3’s 2.84mm hinge. The Chinese company wanted to “repair the inconvenience caused to those who have already purchased Samsung’s bulkier alternative.”
The full message is as follows:
Dear Samsung Galaxy Z Fold owners, we’re sorry. We know you were eager to buy a phone that folds in half and fits awkwardly in your pocket. You were promised the future, a technical marvel, a world of multitasking and limitless performance.
And now you’re probably looking at the new HONOR Magic V3 and feeling a little… betrayed. Size matters, and we understand your pain. It’s like being up for a gold medal and coming in last in the race, the knowledge that a thinner, lighter, and more durable foldable exists is enough to make anyone question their choices.
We get it. You were an early adopter, a pioneer who bravely ventured into the uncharted territory of foldable displays with questionable durability. You deserve better. In fact, you deserve a gold medal.
Seriously, at HONOR, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of technology and bringing you the best foldable experience possible. We're just saying… it's okay to feel disappointed. We'd feel the same way.
The apology was engraved by Graham Short, a 78-year-old British artist known for his tiny artworks, including this message. It took the artist 90 hours to hand-engrave the message, which can only be read under a microscope.
Please note, this is a unique piece of art and not a message that will be engraved on all Magic V3 foldable models. Phew!
Honor will launch the Magic V3 on Thursday in three colors: green, black, and red. The price will be revealed at the event we will be attending. Once everything is official, we will be ready to share all the remaining details with you.
