Honor Magic V3 survives a series of torture tests

The Honor Magic V3 is already available in China and will be unveiled in Europe at the IFA trade show early next month. Not only is it the thinnest foldable smartphone on the market, but Honor also claims that it is one of the most durable on the market. Honor put its smartphone through several torture tests to prove its robustness: a hydraulic press and a washing machine.

Usually, having an extremely thin and light smartphone comes at the cost of durability, but it seems that the case is different with the Magic V3.

Under the hydraulic press, the V3 hinge withstood a pressure of 1,150 kg, even beating a granite boulder. This is mainly thanks to the Super Steel developed by Honor.

Additionally, the V3 uses a special fiber that is stronger than Kevlar and standard carbon fiber, while the inner screen features a shock-resistant silicone gel material. In the event of an impact, it solidifies and protects the screen. On the other hand, the outer screen is protected by a scratch-resistant NanoCrystal Shield with a crystal density 50% higher than standard screens.

Last but not least, the phone is IPX8 certified and can be submerged up to 2.5 meters deep without consequences. The washing machine test is proof of this.

Honor’s most advanced foldable phone will be unveiled on September 5 at IFA 2024 in Berlin. But in the meantime, we got hold of a device to run our own durability test and put it through a lot. Keep an eye on our homepage to find out how it fared and whether Honor’s claims hold up!
