Helpful charging feature first found in Pixel 5 has been removed from Pixel 9 series

From the Pixel 5 to the Pixel 8 series, users were able to take advantage of a feature called Battery Share, which most of us know as reverse wireless charging. If you're hanging out at the local bar and your friend tells you that their phone's battery is about to die, you could flip your phone over and place it face down on the table. Your friend's phone, assuming it supports wireless charging, could be placed back-to-back with your Pixel, and your buddy's device would be charged by using your phone as a wireless charger.

Now you need to understand that your phone will suffer battery damage if you help your friend because your Pixel's battery controls reverse wireless charging. That is, unless you can plug in your Pixel. This way, your phone's battery can charge while you help your friend charge their device's battery. If you think about it, plugging in your Pixel while using it as a wireless charger is no different than plugging in and using a regular wireless charger or charging station.

But this year, Google has made a big change to the feature. If you charge your Pixel 9 series phone while Battery Share is enabled, the feature will stop with a small message saying “Battery Share is not available while charging”. This message will appear even if your Pixels 9 Serial phone is fully charged. Before this change, you could help your friend charge his battery without draining yours. But with the Pixels 9 Series: When you help out your buddy, your battery has to take a beating.

Although Google did not say why it decided to make this change, Pixels 9 series, it may have been done to extend the life of the battery that powers each Pixels 9 phone in the series. Charging the cell while wirelessly charging another device cannot have a positive effect on battery life. By the way, the foldable Pixel phones do not support Battery Share at all.

And here's an interesting trivia question. Do you know which phone was the first to offer wireless reverse charging? It was the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, launched in 2018.
