Earlier this summer, our journey into the world of custom Harley-Davidson brought us face to face with something called the Shiny Star. A heritage bike by birth, the bike had been transformed by the German Thunderbike team into a classic-looking beast that was meant to be a breakfast, lunch, and dinner machine. And now comes its companion, the Blazing Star.
The Blazing Star was originally born as a 2023 Breakout and, despite its name, it doesn't look hot at all. In fact, it's quite the opposite, cold, because it's designed to replicate the look of the Shiny Star, with which it should make long trips, because the two bikes belong to a couple.
The bike you see in front of you now is designed to be ridden by the male of the couple, which is why the larger, more muscular Breakout was chosen as the base. The changes made are extensive and perfectly suited to how the couple presents itself at the moment.
As usual, Thunderbike first changed the wheels of the bike, but this time they didn't go for bigger wheels, but for hardware pieces with the same dimensions as the stock ones: 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear. Both are, however, a bit wider than before.
Custom fenders, with a steel rear one and built-in LED lights, have been pulled over both wheels. The suspension system that supports both is an air ride type.
The changes made to the rear of the bike are a bit more extensive than those imagined for the front. This is where a pulley brake conversion was made, and the bike's license plate holder was moved to the side to ensure an unobstructed view of the right side of the bike, the “show the side of a Harley.”
A leather seat has been installed at the rear of the bike. In front of this is the polished fuel tank, above which is a custom-built sat nav mount, unique to this project.
The motorcycle's engine remains the stock 117ci that Harley originally installed, but it has been given a better breathing apparatus, namely a KessTech exhaust system and matching filter.
Thunderbike doesn’t specify how much the Harley-Davidson Blazing Star was actually worth, but it’s not hard to put a figure on.
In stock form, a Breakout currently retails for $22,499. The German custom crew added about 30 different custom parts, which total to $11,800. Add to that the man-hours spent building and painting it, and you’re easily looking at $40,000 for this beauty.
