Google is rolling out its AI-powered Gmail Q&A feature to Android users, offering a convenient way to interact with their inbox using natural language queries. The feature, which is already available on the web version of Gmail, allows users to ask questions like “What is the address of company X?” or “Inform me about my manager's emails for the week” and get relevant answers directly from their Gmail data.
This update expands the functionality of Gemini in Gmail, which already allowed users to summarize emails and suggest replies, further increasing productivity within the Gmail app. You can also use it to filter your emails, for example to only see unread messages or messages from a specific sender.
The feature is also great news for anyone who struggles to keep up with their overflowing inbox. Instead of manually sifting through countless emails, you can simply ask Gemini to find the information you need.

To access Gmail Q&A on Android, you'll need to have Smart Features and Personalization enabled in your Gmail settings. You can then launch Gemini by either tapping the black Gemini star in the top right of the app or selecting the Summarize this email chip. Initially, Gmail Q&A will focus on pulling information from your inbox, but Google plans to expand its search capabilities to data from your Drive in the future. The rollout of Gmail Q&A on Android will be gradual, with both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains seeing a phased rollout over a maximum of 15 days starting August 29, 2024. The feature is available exclusively to Google Workspace customers who have subscribed to certain add-ons, including Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium. It will also be available on iOS soon.
As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, we can expect Google to continue to expand Gemini's capabilities in Gmail to enable even more sophisticated interactions with our inbox and deliver further productivity gains.
