Over the past few years, many companies, both large and small, have been affected by a terrible trend of layoffs and “downsizing.” Google, Meta, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Tesla are just a few of the major companies that have laid off thousands of employees since the beginning of 2023. But now Apple seems to want to be on that list as well. Let's be clear: Yes, Apple doesn't even come close to the layoff numbers of the other companies mentioned above. But for a company that is often praised for hardly any layoffs, Apple has really stepped it up a gear.
According to Bloomberg's Apple insider Mark Gurman, Apple is laying off employees for the fourth time this year. Around 100 jobs were cut in the “services division” this week. The team that manages Apple Books was hit hardest by these layoffs. Apple News also saw layoffs, with the company planning higher subscription prices and in-app advertising, according to Gurman.

Gurman says these layoffs are a sign that Apple is starting to focus on other priorities. I guess some of those new priorities are the company's push into XR (Augmented Reality) with Apple Vision Pro. Another priority is definitely Apple Intelligence. But it's always depressing to hear about mass layoffs.
The bright spot, however, is the fact that these employees now have an enviable resume.
