Gemini Live works similarly to the Google Assistant, but offers more flexibility. Users can interrupt responses to ask more questions or pause conversations and continue later. The feature also works hands-free, allowing users to continue their conversations even when the app is running in the background or when the phone is locked. Gemini Live also offers ten new voice options, allowing users to choose the voice that works best for them.

Google plans to release new extensions for Gemini Live in the coming weeks that will make it even more useful. These updates will allow the feature to work with apps like Google Keep, Tasks, and Utilities, and will expand its capabilities in YouTube Music. Google will soon introduce a Calendar extension. This will allow users to take a photo of a concert flyer, check availability that day, and set reminders to buy tickets. While ticket purchasing isn’t available yet, it’s something Google plans to add in future updates.

For Android users who have replaced Google Assistant with Gemini, the familiar “Hey Google” command to access Gemini's features will still work. While watching YouTube, users can tap “Ask about this video” to ask questions about the content. The feature works on other screens as well, allowing users to ask questions about what they're viewing. What's more, Gemini allows users to easily drag and drop images they create into Gmail and Google Messages.

Google has committed to improving Gemini’s speed and quality in the coming months. The company also plans to integrate Gemini more deeply with Google Home, Phone, and Messages, making it a more seamless part of a user’s daily experience.
