By far the biggest launch of the week was the arrival of the Google Pixel 9 series. The search giant unveiled two new flagships, a new near-flagship phone, and a new foldable, all of which are currently up for pre-order.
In Germany, phones come with a free storage upgrade – typically, that means getting a 256GB model for the price of a 128GB model. However, for phones that are a tier higher, you can get the 512GB model for the price of a 256GB model (the new Fold starts at 256GB, so 512GB is the only option at the moment).
Let’s start with the Google Pixel 9. Both Google and Amazon offer a $150 trade-in bonus for an older device. That’s a good thing, because trade-in estimates are pretty bad. A Pixel 8 in good condition is valued at just $186, or $336 with the bonus added. An iPhone 15 is valued at $510 (including the bonus), while a Galaxy S23 is valued at $325, less than the Pixel. For older devices, like the Pixel 7 or Galaxy S22, the trade-in bonus tends to be higher than the trade-in value.

coming August 22
Free storage upgrade (ends September 5)
Additional trade-in value of €150 (ends September 5)
The Google Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL both get a slightly higher trade-in bonus of €200. Plus, you get a free year of Gemini Advanced (normally €22 per month).
Note that availability is limited when choosing colors and storage. For example, the Pixel 9 Pro XL in Rose Quartz only comes in 256GB. The smaller Pro tops out at 256GB when looking at the Porcelain and Rose Quartz versions, but moving up to Hazel or Obsidian also reveals a 512GB option. The Obsidian Pro XL even has a 1TB option. Google could stock up on more color/storage combinations, but keep in mind that the free storage upgrade offer ends on September 5.

Additional trade-in value of €200 (ends September 5)
Another perk to consider is the discount you get when you buy a Pro phone with the new Google Pixel Watch 3: you get $100 off the watch with a Pixel 9 Pro, and $150 off with a 9 Pro XL. We'll look at Pixel Watch pricing separately in a minute.

Free storage upgrade (ends September 5)
Additional trade-in value of €200 (ends September 5)
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold increases the trade-in bonus to $300, and you get a free upgrade to the 512GB model. The original Pixel Fold is valued at $632 (including the bonus), a Galaxy Z Fold4 (the last option in the trade-in menu) gets you $512 (again, that includes the $300 bonus). As we said, the trade-in offer is mostly driven by the bonus, since the value of older phones is pretty bad. You get a free year of Gemini Advanced, for what it's worth.

coming September 4th
Free storage upgrade (ends September 5)
Additional trade-in value of €300 (ends September 5)
Google has launched a new 45W charger, which you'll need to get the maximum charging speed with the Pixel 9 Pro. The old 35W charger won't cut it. That said, if you have a USB-PD charger that works for you, you can skip this one.
The new Google Pixel Watch 3 comes in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm, while the Watch 2 was only available in 41mm. The 45mm option gets you a larger 1.4″ display (up from 1.2″) and a larger 420mAh battery. We've linked the Wi-Fi watches below, but you can get an LTE version for $100 more.
Finally, Google unveiled the new Pixel Buds Pro 2. This is the first time its custom Tensor chips have ventured into the TWS earbud form factor. It promises massive improvements in noise cancellation (2x in the 400Hz-2kHz range). And the ANC automatically adapts to your environment. The earbuds have no stem (cough, Samsung, cough) and promise long battery life (8 hours for the earbuds with ANC enabled, up to 30 hours with the case).
