That’s due to the more performance-focused models, of course, like the Z06 and E-Ray, not the Stingray. We recently saw Team Corvette transform and remodel the Z06 into the twin-turbo ZR1 with no less than 1,064 horsepower, which is more powerful than a Ferrari SF90 Stradale or a Lambo Revuelto, both of which electrified to reach their power levels.
Nowadays, even tuners don't think much of hypercars anymore: ProCharger Superchargers has launched the latest supercharging kit for the electrified Corvette E-Ray model, which achieves over 885 horsepower and consistent acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in two seconds flat, making the modified hybrid faster than even a Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport!
However, the cheaper yet livelier C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is the more sensible option for many car enthusiasts: it's fast for its class but also fully usable on a daily basis. If you need more examples of people using it at home during the week and on the track every other weekend, here's the videographer behind it SSDRacer YouTube channel, who cooked up another fast-paced run of the 1/8-mile variety at the Barona Dragstrip in Lakeside, California, with his crimson-colored 2023MY C8 example.
The latest drag features at Barona involve the C8 Stingray initially going to war against a traditional foe of the Mopar variety (first video embedded below). It’s a white 2020 Dodge Charger 5.7 Hemi V8 with unknown modifications. The first race is an absolute massacre as the Mopar sedan falls far behind the lively C8 (7.79 vs. 8.86), frankly. The second brawl is more evenly matched and initially the Charger even takes the lead. However, after one of the gear changes, it drops the pace significantly again and loses the race again.
Next up, in the second video embedded below, the 2023 Stingray faced a more bizarre foe: a 2018 Audi SQ5 with an E50 tune. The first skirmish kept us on edge for much of its duration, as it was only in the latter stages that the C8 finally managed to break through for the win: 7.96 seconds to 8.24 seconds. The rematch also started off fairly evenly matched, but the Stingray managed to assert its supremacy once again: 7.83 seconds to 8.2 seconds! Pretty cool, huh?
Of course, that’s fine for a small local drag strip that’s not even the full length of a quarter mile. But with all these Stingrays, Z06s, and E-Rays racing around winning races, we’re getting more and more excited to see the 1,064-horsepower 2025 ZR1 in action sooner rather than later.
