Bluesky introduces anti-toxicity features to limit various forms of harassment

Bluesky is one of the better alternatives to Twitter, and it's gotten even better thanks to a number of new anti-toxicity features designed to limit dogpiling and other forms of harassment.

The latest version of Bluesky (1.90) allows users to hide replies to their posts. While these replies are still accessible, they are much less visible as they are placed behind a “Hidden Replies” screen.

More importantly, Bluesky users can now see all quote posts on a specific post. Additionally, it is now possible to separate your original post from someone else's quote post, allowing users to maintain control over a thread you started.

Bluesky says it is working on a more permanent solution in the form of a Community Notes-like feature that will be released in the not-too-distant future.

Additionally, Bluesky has added a new priority notifications feature that allows users to filter their notifications to only receive updates from people they follow. Another major change Bluesky has introduced is the way replies are displayed in timelines. Previously, the app displayed every reply in the “Following” feed, meaning that every reply had the same visibility as a top-level post.

The latest version of Bluesky reduces the frequency of replies appearing in the Following feed, so that only conversations that contain replies between at least two people a user follows are shown.

Finally, if you block the creator of a starter pack or curatorial user list, you will be filtered out of all lists they have created, but moderation lists will still be unaffected.

Bluesky also announces that it will update its guidelines on acceptable list titles and descriptions and will more clearly label lists in the future.
