Gameloft is one of the leaders in the video game industry, with a penchant for releasing successful racing games every now and then. Hopefully, its latest offering in this segment, a game called Asphalt Legends Unite, will be just that, a success. And Italian car manufacturer Ferrari is ready to help.
Asphalt Legends Unite was released under this title in 2024, as an expansion update to the six-year-old Asphalt 9: Legends. It follows the same gameplay as all other games in the series, with players able to choose from over 250 cars to race against competitors.
The list of vehicles is very varied and ranges from concepts (Volkswagen XL Sport, Lamborghini Miura, Cadillac Cien, Rimac Concept One, Aston Martin Valhalla) to hypercars (Praga R1, Arash AF10, Zenvo TSR-S, Pagani Huayra R).
There are also over 20 Ferraris in the game, and with that in mind, the Italian automaker and Gameloft this week announced the first-ever eSports competition for Asphalt Legends Unite. And by competition, I mean there are prizes up for grabs.
The competition is called Ferrari CV Esports Asphalt Series and, as the name suggests, only Ferrari cars can be used. They do not have to be selected by the players, but are imposed by the creators of the game.
Ferrari HP Esports features five limited-time events, each dedicated to an iconic Prancing Horse. There are no conditions for entry, as anyone can participate, regardless of skill level.
In addition, there is no limit to the number of times you can attempt to complete the races. The competition is cross-play, which means it can be played on almost all existing platforms: Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
The first four events are called qualifying rounds. The first one takes place from August 15 to 22 and will use the Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale. The second one takes place from August 29 to September 4 and will use the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo, while the third one must be completed from September 5 to 11 at the wheel of the Ferrari 599XX Evo. Finally, the fourth round, which takes place from September 12 to 18, will rely on the Ferrari FXX K.
The fifth and final event of the competition is the final, which takes place on site. That site would be Ferrari Land in Barcelona, Spain, and the car that will be racing will be the Ferrari 499P Modificata.
The final is open only to the two fastest drivers from each qualifying round, who will physically have to travel and arrive on site on December 18. It is not clear whether Ferrari or Gameloft will cover the expenses.
I mentioned the prizes earlier, and you should know that they are quite substantial. In total, the organizers will spend about 20,000 euros in cash (almost $22,000), and they will add to that a huge amount of merchandise.
The prizes are not only for the finalists, but will be distributed among them and all the players who take part in the qualifying rounds. Some of these prizes (it is not clear which ones) will be awarded simply for registering and playing.
