Apple has rolled out new beta versions of its various OS branches for phones, tablets, computers, watches, set-top boxes, and augmented reality headsets. Here's what's changed.
Apple Intelligence is the flagship feature of iOS 18.1, but it has some issues. In particular, rendering issues occurred when using the new Siri UI with large Apple CarPlay screens. This issue should be resolved now.
iOS 18 is also in development, and Apple is currently working on beta 6. This adds changes like Place ID for Apple Maps, “a unique and persistent identifier.” Another change: If you add your ID to Wallet, you may be asked to take a photo of it, which is meant to prevent fraud.
Apple Vision Pro software developers can test visionOS 2 beta 6. It increases the maximum placement distance between apps to give users more flexibility. Additionally, compatible apps can now be moved out of the Compatible Apps folder and placed next to apps designed for visionOS (long-press any icon to enter “edit” mode). And look at this: you can now use gamepads to interact with the system’s user interface.
macOS Sequoia 15 beta 6 brings several fixes and some good news for those short on storage space: the App Store no longer requires twice the app size as free space for the initial download and installation of an app. You only need the app size + a small free buffer.
A stable release of iOS 18 is expected in the fall, with iOS 18.1 expected to arrive shortly after.
