Recent reports indicate that Foxconn has begun mass production of the iPhone 16, with Samsung and LG supplying the displays. To support this increased production, Foxconn has hired 50,000 additional workers at its Zhengzhou factory, the world’s largest iPhone manufacturing facility. These new hires were recruited through social media and job sites, and were offered an hourly wage of 25 yuan, or about $3.52.

The decision to expand the workforce comes as Apple expects iPhone 16 sales to be 10% higher than its predecessor. Apple expects to sell 90 million iPhone 16 units in the second half of 2024 thanks to new features and advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).
