Another Google Pixel 9 Pro XL teardown video confirms battery replacement issues

A few hours ago, iFixit published its teardown video of the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, and now the same phone has been given a similar treatment by Zack from JerryRigEverything.

The unit opens from the back using heat and isopropyl alcohol. Right off the bat, repairs seem to be slightly hampered by the use of less common screws in some parts. Additionally, there are multiple sizes of screws, which can further complicate the reassembly process.

The battery removal process is quite difficult, as was also demonstrated in the other video. The pull tab practically breaks off without doing its job, so you have to use alcohol to dissolve the very strong adhesive. The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, according to Zack, has the most difficult battery to replace of any consumer phone, including iPhones.

The microphone hole is designed so that it won't get punctured if you accidentally insert the SIM card removal tool into it. The cameras are actually quite large, which goes some way to justifying the size of this camera island.

Samsung and Apple have both made significant improvements to the repairability of their smartphones in recent times, but Google has unfortunately not followed suit. Maybe next year.
