Android 15-based ColorOS 15 starts secret screenings on certain OnePlus 12 and Oppo phones

The last twelve months have gone by really quickly – so it’s time to talk more seriously about Android 15 and its various custom skins.

None other than the extremely gossipy Digital Chat Station account on Weibo (the Chinese version of the X platform) has something to say about the upcoming ColorOS, the mobile operating system for Oppo devices (OnePlus uses OxygenOS, which is very similar to ColorOS).

According to the informant, ColorOS 15 is, as you can imagine, based on Android15is scheduled to enter the testing phase at the end of August. Selected Oppo Find X7 and OnePlus 12 devices (some users will receive it with ColorOS instead of OxygenOS) will be included as testers.

After they gather enough information about the bugs and issues encountered, they will fix them (I hope!) and release a wider public beta. Then, the wide release of ColorOS 15 will follow for all eligible devices. This should happen by the end of 2024, according to the leakster.

I own an Oppo Find X7 Ultra, so I'm naturally curious to see what this update will look like and what features it will bring. So far, ColorOS 15 is expected to be a major update with the goal of improving the overall user experience and connectivity (we'll see).

The upcoming operating system is rumored to include several new features. Reports suggest that the operating system will introduce a separate control center, redesigned floating windows, a custom lock screen, and some fancy GPU optimizations. Of course, improved UI animations and a new feature similar to Apple's Live Photos that records 1.5 seconds before and after a picture is taken are expected.

Additionally, ColorOS 15 is expected to include an AirDrop-like feature to transfer files between Android and Apple devices, but iOS users will need to install a dedicated app to use this feature.

The update is also expected to introduce a Dynamic Island-like feature that will offer improved customization and a more centralized design compared to Apple's version, and may be integrated into the camera module.

The upcoming Oppo Find X8 series and some OnePlus 13 devices are expected to ship with ColorOS 15 out of the box.
