We all know that the best time to pick up a Fire tablet at an unbeatable price is during sales events like Prime Day, but what you may have only realized this week is that the second best time to do so is before you (or your kids) go back to school.
Like all its brothers, sisters and predecessors, the latest generation of the Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus does not have official Google Play support, but instead relies on the manufacturer's first-party app store, as well as other key proprietary tools and services such as Alexa (which you can activate and fully control by voice).
Powered by an unspecified 2.0GHz hexa-core processor, this is definitely not the fastest tablet in the world, but for its (recently reduced) price, it arguably delivers enough performance to keep most everyday users (relatively) happy. That includes a respectable 3GB of RAM, up to 13 hours of battery life, a decently sharp HD screen, a 5MP rear camera with 1080p video recording capability, and a modern (but admittedly slow) USB-C 2.0 port.
While the entry-level configuration, which is discounted compared to the $119.99 list price mentioned above, comes with, unsurprisingly, a modest 32GB of internal storage, there is also currently a 64GB variant that you can buy for $55 instead of the regular $149.99 price if you so choose and feel that it better suits your needs.
