According to leaks, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is the slimmest device yet. But wouldn't a better battery make it even thinner?

A few days ago, a very reliable leaker claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max would be very similar. Now, the same source has revealed the exact dimensions of the S25 Ultra, which suggest that it will be the slimmest Ultra phone Samsung has ever made.

At just 8.2mm thick – compared to 8.6mm for the S24 Ultra – Samsung continues its trend of making its phones slimmer. But why? Such a small change will surely be unnoticeable to the average consumer. Wouldn't this have been better than more space for a larger battery?

Samsung's Ultra phones are meant to be at the top of the food chain. What do people complain about more, the battery life or the 0.4mm thickness? I'd go for a slightly chunkier phone any day if I could get an extra hour or two of use out of it. And I just wonder why phone makers continue to focus on thickness rather than functionality.

This trend also reminds me of the camera craze in smartphones. Admittedly, cameras mean a lot to many consumers. But at some point, that was the only thing manufacturers bragged about each year. And that made phone announcements pretty boring for a few years.

I'm glad AI has come onto the scene just because manufacturers are marketing something new. Suddenly Apple Intelligence, Galaxy AI and Gemini are the new big talking points. If you don't really care about that, the iPhone 16 is supposed to be the best video camera Apple has ever made.

We've almost perfected displays, cameras and all that other cool stuff. What I really want now is better battery life and faster charging. That's what modern devices really need, especially VR devices, which have been on the rise lately.

I'm sure the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be one of the best phones worth buying today, I just wish it would also focus more on improving the battery instead of just giving us more of the same incremental upgrades we see every year.
