While Chevrolet sales skyrocketed in 1958, thanks largely to the revamped full-size lineup, Pontiac struggled in the late 1950s. The company made several notable changes, including promoting the Bonneville to independent series status and retaining the Star Chief as the first choice for sedan and station wagon buyers.

The Star Chief could be had with a 370ci small-block engine that developed 255 horsepower when paired with a manual transmission. Pontiac also offered an automatic transmission known as the Strato-Flight Hydra-Matic, and power increased to 285 horsepower.

More power came from the Tri-Power setup, which sported triple carburetors and high-compression heads, topping out at 300 horsepower. Top-end versions, though very rare, sported Rochester fuel injection and produced 310 horsepower.

The Star Chief in these photos still features the original 370ci engine, mated to an automatic transmission.

The car is still original, unrestored and unaltered, having sat in a museum for over 25 years. eBay seller flight-rn explains that the museum closed down not long ago and a lucky guy managed to get his hands on the car, eventually selling it to its current owner.

The Star Chief is now looking for a new home online, and whoever buys it will only need a little TLC to get it back to a pristine 10. It’s a rust-free survivor, and the owner says the paint is still in excellent condition. The interior is “clean and original but not perfect,” which is why I think buyers should contact the seller to arrange for an in-person or third-party inspection.

A Star Chief in this condition is rare, especially considering it has not been modified or restored, so you need to have a complete picture of everything about the car. The seller provided a detailed description of everything, explaining that the Pontiac starts, runs, and drives with a few minor oil leaks, but it is still important to inspect everything before making a bid. The interior also needs some attention, and the only way to determine how much work this Pontiac would require is to see it in person.

The asking price is fair, as the owner is willing to sell the car for $15,000. The Star Chief also has a Make Offer option activated, which means potential buyers should contact the owner and discuss other offers. It is parked in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and you should find transportation to get it home, especially if you don't live nearby. The car is roadworthy, but may not be ready for a long trip, considering the minor leaks and brake issues.

This listing will expire in about a month, so you'll have plenty of time to convince your significant other that a 1958 Pontiac is exactly what your collection is missing.
