GMC launches the 2025 Terrain SUV. The redesigned model is now available with a single engine, a new, larger touchscreen, more safety technology and a new trim level. The new Terrain replaces the outgoing model that was plagued by recalls.
The third generation of the Terrain is coming Off-roadthe GMC-branded sibling of the Chevrolet Equinox, which it shares its underpinnings with. Previewed since last spring, the base model of the GMC SUV lineup has been redesigned and, according to the brand, features a truck-inspired look.
The front fascia features a massive vertical grille, which now shares design cues with the GMC truck lineup, flanked by slimmer headlamps, mirrored by new taillamps. The off-road AT4 and luxury-focused Denali trims, coming next year, will get animated LD graphics. The Terrain, which will be ready to tackle rough terrain (pun intended!), will get higher ground clearance and a metal underbody skid plate.
Customers will have more paint options to choose from, with a two-tone option offered for the first time, with either a black or gray roof. The Elevation trim rolls on 17-inch wheels, while GMC has reserved 19- and 20-inch units for the Denali.
A new digital instrument cluster has appeared on the Terrain, measuring 11 inches. The model also gets a larger 15-inch portrait-style touchscreen, which integrates the infotainment system and controls most of the SUV's functions.

Both come standard with the Google Assistant, while the HD Surround Vision camera, digital rearview mirror, wireless charger and AutoSense powered tailgate are available at extra cost.
GMC has also updated the SUV's safety package. It now sports features such as Blind Zone Steering Assist, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Side Bicylist Alert, Interection Automatic Emergency Braking and Rear Cross Traffic Braking. The Super Cruise system, available in GM models such as the Hummer Electric vehicle or the Cadillac Escalade was not included in the Terrain SUV.
The automaker offers a single engine for the Terrain. Just like in the Chevrolet Equinox, it’s the 1.5-liter four-cylinder that works under the hood to make 175 horsepower (177 metric horsepower) and 203 pound-feet (275 Newton meters) of torque.
An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels. A front-wheel drive version is expected to join the lineup at a later date. The 2025 GMC Terrain can tow up to 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms).

Both the AT4 and Denali get Hill Decent Control, while the off-road-focused AT4 gets a raised suspension and all-terrain tires. GMC reserves Smart Frequency Dampers for the Denali.
The model is expected to hit showrooms in late 2024 in the form of the Terrain Elevation. The AT4 and Denali will be available starting next year. Pricing has yet to be revealed.
