Chevrolet is busy readying the 1,064-horsepower 2025 Corvette ZR1 for the general public, after previously taking on the crossover and SUV segments of the lineup, as well as electric models.

The American automaker has several new vehicles in dealerships or on the way: the stunning C8 flagship is one of them, but so are the new 2024 Traverse full-size CUV, the 2025 Equinox compact crossover, the Silverado Electric vehicle RST, or the revamped 2025 Tahoe and Suburban body-on-frame full-size SUVs. However, General Motors is having a hard time stopping the inexorable advance of its Japanese rival Toyota, which is aiming to seize the throne and snatch the all-around sales crown.

As such, more ideas are always welcome. Well, the parallel universes of vehicular CGI are never without their own whimsical thoughts. As such, it’s no wonder the imaginative realm of automotive digital content creators is even contemplating the possibility of a quirky comeback for the Chevrolet El Camino. The original, created by GM for the 1959 model year in response to the resounding success of the Ford Ranchero, was a coupe-like utility vehicle that lived through five generations based initially on the B-body Biscayne and then the Chevelle and G-body platforms.

The last generation appeared in 1978 and adopted the downsizing narrative before quietly fading from existence in late 1987, but it has not been forgotten, even nearly four decades later. For example, the good people of PoloTo AND Car Q YouTube channels asked their resident pixel masters for ideas for the revival of this iconic Ute. They quickly came up with unofficial and hypothetical design concepts, but some die-hard El Camino fans might not be impressed.

Instead, they might start to lash out, shouting their outrage at the sight of these “abominations,” as virtual artists shift their focus from the Ute body style to more contemporary formats. The idea of PoloTo It’s the closest thing to a ute, but still has four doors and a small cargo bed with a split tailgate – it’s definitely something that can only be achieved with a compact footprint, making it a stylish and practical competitor to the refreshed 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz, for example.

On the other hand, the resident Car Q The CGI expert has opted for a straightforward approach to the monocoque compact pickup that will battle the 2025 Ford Maverick. This means that the reborn Chevy El Camin would lose the element of surprise of the coupe utility and instead morph into the pickup counterpart of the Equinox CUV, for example. Of course, take all these renderings with a healthy dose of salt because nothing is official from Chevrolet and there’s a high chance that they will forever remain just wishful thinking, an idea on how to revive a beloved nameplate while also serving the company’s legitimate business interests. So, what do you think?
